What Play and Learn helps you do.

Understand movement

Understand why movement and motor development matter during the Foundation Phase.

Teach it purposefully

Connect it with learning

Use purposeful movement in ways that can support early learning, including foundational maths.

Assess progress

Observe competence and evaluate how learners are developing over time.

Inside Play and Learn

Eleven units. One clear progression.

The programme begins with the foundations of movement, then shows how to apply them in practice before moving into assessment and learner progress.

Units 01–05

Learn the movement foundations.

Five core ideas give you a practical language for understanding how children move.

Unit 01

Unit 06

Getting Out of the Blocks

Learning to cycle

A practical unit focused on helping learners develop the skills involved in learning to cycle.

Unit 07

Units 10–11

Unit 10

Assessment of learners

Use practical assessment guidance to observe learner competence and identify where support may still be needed.

Unit 11

Learner progress evaluation

Evaluate progress over time and use what you observe to understand children's developing movement abilities.

From content to teaching

More than a list of activities.

Play and Learn gives you the support around the activity too, so you know what to do, how to guide it and what to observe.

Practical activities

Indoor and outdoor movement activities that turn the programme principles into something children can actually do.

Animated demonstrations

Visual demonstrations make movement activities and execution easier to understand.

Teaching cues

Clear guidance helps you mediate and facilitate quality movement rather than simply presenting an activity.

Assessment support

Observe competence using the programme's needs-support, making-progress and meets-expectations framework.
